Champions BJJ in North Houston is led by Head Instructor Kurt Zettlemoyer, an IBJJF-certified first-degree black belt with over 15 years of martial arts experience. Professor Kurt has shaped the academy with a focus on discipline, respect, and family involvement, building a place where both adults and children can connect and grow through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His approach emphasizes hands-on coaching and a structured, level-based curriculum, making Champions BJJ a home for everyone from first-time students to active competitors. The academy’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program covers the full spectrum, with fundamentals, all-levels, advanced, and live training classes in the gi for adults. There is also a dedicated women’s class and regular no-gi sessions. Kids’ instruction follows a progressive path, starting with Tiny Champions and Little Champions, with additional competition training available for youth. Wrestling and striking are woven into the schedule as well, with classes in kickboxing, boxing, and MMA drills for both kids and adults. Coach Aaron Phillips, a professional MMA fighter and The Ultimate Fighter veteran, leads the kickboxing and no-gi programs, while Coach Cee Riley brings his extensive experience to the boxing and kickboxing classes. Every class at Champions BJJ blends technical instruction, drilling, situational work, and controlled sparring. Students receive consistent feedback and are encouraged to challenge themselves in a positive, respectful environment. Open mats and drop-in options provide extra opportunities for training, and the schedule is designed to make martial arts accessible to busy families and working adults. The result is a school where personal growth and skill development go hand-in-hand, rooted in Houston’s diverse martial arts community.
