Carlson Gracie NKY in Newport, Kentucky, is built on the foundation of the Carlson Gracie lineage and guided by a team of instructors with decades of combined experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, judo, wrestling, and striking arts. Head professor Aaron Thomas, a certified Carlson Gracie black belt, has spent over a decade coaching both Jiu-Jitsu and MMA, shaping the skills of numerous black belt coaches throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. His approach centers on strong fundamentals and technical reliability, driving his students to success in competition and personal growth on the mat. The academy’s coaching staff brings a wide range of expertise. Andy Bosiljevac, a judo 4th degree black belt and BJJ brown belt, emphasizes technical accuracy and tailoring each student’s game to their strengths. Wrestling is led by Logan Dean, an Ohio state champion and collegiate wrestler, while striking and MMA programs benefit from Casey Hall’s 16 years of experience and Muay Thai black belt. The team also includes instructors with backgrounds in high school athletics, published authorship, and women’s empowerment, ensuring a depth of perspective across all programs. Training at Carlson Gracie NKY covers the full spectrum of grappling and striking disciplines. Adult students can attend gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu throughout the week, along with dedicated classes in judo, wrestling, Muay Thai, and mixed martial arts. The Little Bulldogs program introduces kids ages 5–12 to both gi and no-gi Jiu-Jitsu as well as striking. There is a women’s only class on Saturdays, and open mat sessions are offered twice weekly, with Sunday’s open mat available to the public with a signed waiver. Private training is also available for those looking to focus on specific skills or competition preparation.
