Capitao Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts, INC was built on the vision of owner and head instructor Danny Ruiz, who holds black belts in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, as well as a 2nd-degree black belt in Dantoryu JuJitsu. For Danny, self-defense is at the heart of Jiu-Jitsu, though he recognizes that competition sharpens technical skill. With over 60 years of combined experience among the coaching staff, the academy has grown into a place where discipline and focus are taught alongside practical martial arts. At Capitao, students can train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Judo, wrestling, and even Capoeira. The BJJ program is structured for all ages, with dedicated Kids Jitsu classes and adult sessions. There’s a strong emphasis on practical self-defense, but those interested in sport and competition find support as well. The academy also regularly schedules wrestling classes, judo, and capoeira for those looking to broaden their skills. Open mats are available for adults, and drop-ins from out of state are welcome with prior coordination. Classes are designed to be accessible to beginners and experienced martial artists alike, with instructors tailoring their approach to each student’s needs. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and the team believes in using martial arts to build character, leadership, and lifelong fitness. Whether a student’s goal is confidence, competition, or simply getting in shape, Capitao Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts offers a wide range of authentic martial arts training in Fort Walton Beach.
