Cactus Jiu Jitsu Academy

Cactus Jiu Jitsu Academy is led by Professor Val Larralde, a 3rd-degree black belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu under Master Pedro Sauer and also a 3rd-degree black belt in Judo. Val’s training includes many years under Grandmaster Relson Gracie and other members of the Gracie family, emphasizing practical street self-defense. Alongside Val, Coach Ed Maguire, a black belt who studied directly under Master Sauer and has experience with Grandmasters Relson and Rickson Gracie, helps maintain the academy’s focus on authentic Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Their instruction prioritizes teaching students effective self-defense techniques that work regardless of size, age, or athletic background. The academy offers a structured curriculum for adults, teens, and children starting as young as five years old. Classes cover fundamentals for beginners through all ranks, with specialized sessions such as belt test preparation for kids and private lessons available to tailor individual progress.
