Breaking Point Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is known throughout the Quad Cities for its deep roster of seasoned black belt instructors, a thriving youth program, and a commitment to both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Founded in 2017 by Nate Fenton and Josh Hamilton—both accomplished competitors with multiple IBJJF championship medals—the academy was built to bring high-level training closer to home for local students. What started as a small group on borrowed mats has grown into a modern facility supporting over 300 members, with locations in Davenport and Bettendorf. The heart of the academy is its teaching team. Nate Fenton, a black belt under John Gutta, brings a detail-driven, technical approach and years of competitive experience. Josh Hamilton, a World Masters Champion with over twenty IBJJF medals, emphasizes the value of persistence and learning through challenge. Alongside them, instructors like Nate Rodriguez and a diverse coaching staff guide students of all ages, from six-year-old beginners to advanced adults. The academy takes pride in the number of women actively training and the size of its youth program—both among the largest in the region. Students at Breaking Point can choose from a full schedule of classes six days a week, including gi and no-gi fundamentals, all-levels no-gi, women’s fundamentals in the gi, wrestling, and open mats. Kids’ classes in the gi start at age six, and competition-focused no-gi sparring is available for adults. The academy welcomes drop-ins for most classes and offers a wheelchair-accessible facility. Whether training for competition or personal growth, students find instruction shaped by real experience and a straightforward, disciplined philosophy.
