Claim this gymBowerhouse MMA in Frederick is led by owner Chris Bower, a third-degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Professor Vicente Junior with a degree in Exercise Science. The coaching roster has unusual depth: Vicente Junior is a fifth-degree black belt and world gi/no-gi champion, Ann Dempsey is a two-time IBJJF Masters world champion, and other instructors bring professional MMA, judo, boxing and striking backgrounds. The current program includes gi and no-gi jiu jitsu, kids and women’s training, wrestling, judo, MMA, boxing and open mat. Competition training is part of the academy’s identity, but the staff is broad enough that students can focus on BJJ, fighting or general grappling without relying on one coach for every discipline. For martial artists around Frederick, Bowerhouse stands out because the instructor résumés are specific and verifiable. Students get owner-led BJJ under Bower, senior technical depth through Vicente Junior and dedicated women’s and combat-sports coaches, making the academy much easier to differentiate from a generic MMA gym.
