BJJ Coach Sheepdog in Shelbyville, Indiana was founded by a team of law enforcement officers and is led on the mats by Head Jiu Jitsu Instructor Grant Larsen, a first degree black belt. The academy holds an official affiliation with Professor Marcello C. Monteiro and the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association, grounding its curriculum in a recognized lineage and structured approach. Co-owner and manager Conrad Reichert (purple belt) and Muay Thai instructor Chase Marsden (purple belt) round out the core team, combining practical experience in martial arts and self-defense with a focus on personal development. The gym runs a range of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for both kids and adults. Children as young as four begin in the Kids BJJ program, where the emphasis is on building character, respect, discipline, and social skills alongside technical progression. For teens and adults, the schedule offers Basic and Advanced BJJ, as well as No-Gi classes for those interested in training without the traditional gi. The academy maintains a clear structure in its kids’ classes, encouraging parental involvement to ensure safety and steady advancement. In addition to BJJ, the gym offers Muay Thai for adults and teens, with both technical and live sparring sessions. True to its roots, BJJ Coach Sheepdog is also an EFC (Effective Fitness Combative) Certified Academy and partners with organizations such as Invictus Law Enforcement Collective and Adopt-a-Cop BJJ, providing specialized seminars and training for law enforcement and self-defense. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and visitors are welcome to drop in for classes.
