BJJ ART UK - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded with a clear purpose: to provide Londoners of all backgrounds with a place to learn effective self-defence and real BJJ, without ego or intimidation. Third-degree black belt Mairton Oliveira, a lifelong practitioner with championship credentials, leads a coaching team that balances technical depth with a strong sense of family. Alongside him, Steve (brown belt, accomplished competitor and natural teacher) and Stephen (black belt with roots at the Gracie Academy in California and London Fight Factory under Luiz Ribeiro, twice European champion at blue and purple belt) bring decades of experience both on the mats and in competition. The academy’s teaching philosophy revolves around respect, hard work and helping students of every age and ability progress at their own pace. The training programme is structured for progression from the very start. Adults can join all-levels and beginners’ classes in the gi, with advanced sessions focused on drilling, strategy and sparring for those looking to push their game further or prepare for competition. No-gi grappling and MMA classes are part of the weekly schedule, with wrestling, takedowns and submission grappling taught in a practical, accessible way. Open mat time gives members space to roll, troubleshoot and experiment outside of formal instruction. Private lessons are available for those seeking focused development or competition preparation. Young people are a core part of the academy’s mission. BJJ Babies (ages 4–7) introduces children to the mats with fun, structured sessions, while BJJ Juniors (ages 8–17) develops discipline, self-defence and confidence through energetic classes in the gi. The facility itself is purpose-built for BJJ, with a fully matted dojo, dedicated fitness area, and separate changing rooms for men and women. Located just five minutes from Kennington tube in central London, BJJ ART UK is accessible for families and commuters alike. Drop-ins are welcome, and all beginners receive a gi and belt for their first session.
