Bismarck Ice Dragon Brazilian BJJ and Kickboxing

Bismarck Ice Dragon Brazilian BJJ and Kickboxing was founded in 2010 by Coach Josh, who started training martial arts after college to get in shape. His early experience with mixed martial arts led him to focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and when his original gym dropped the program, he found support from a traveling black belt connected to the local police department. That encouragement helped him open one of North Dakota’s earliest dedicated BJJ gyms, aiming to provide consistent, authentic training in Bismarck. The academy emphasizes building a strong foundation in fundamentals, with a particular focus on defensive skills. Classes blend all levels together, so newcomers learn alongside more experienced students, which helps everyone stay challenged and deepen their understanding. Along with gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the school offers Muay Thai kickboxing classes that cover striking basics, conditioning, and strategy for both adults and youth. Regular open mat sessions give students extra time to drill or spar in a less structured setting. Ice Dragon Academy also supports competition training and private lessons, tailoring instruction to individual goals. The name “Ice Dragon” reflects the northern climate and Viking heritage of the area, symbolizing resilience and strength. Beyond the mats, the gym fosters connections among its members through events and activities that build lasting relationships. Located on Morrison Avenue, it remains a central spot for martial arts in Bismarck.
