Binding Arts Jiu Jitsu

Binding Arts Jiu Jitsu is led by Professor Ben Sherman, a black belt who began his foundation under Marcelo Garcia in New York City before earning his black belt at Binding Arts. The academy opened with a vision of offering balanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in Howell Township, NJ, blending both gi and no-gi styles. The coaching team also includes Prof. Stephen Dobbins, founder of Binding Arts in 2022 and a black belt under Ademir Oliveira, along with instructors bringing wrestling backgrounds and diverse grappling experience. The gym emphasizes a structured curriculum that supports steady progression for all ages and skill levels. Classes are organized to address different needs clearly. Beginners and fundamentals-focused adults can start in gi classes designed to build solid technical foundations, while no-gi sessions offer a faster-paced environment to develop transitional skills. Women have dedicated classes that focus on practical self-defense and strength within a supportive setting. Youth programs are separated into age-appropriate groups, from Little Vikings (3–6 years) to Kids BJJ (7–11 years), using drills and games to teach focus, respect, and self-defense. Open mat sessions provide extra time for live rolling and positional drilling outside of formal classes.
