Berks County Brazilian BJJ in Temple, PA is led by Jose Ortiz, a black belt whose path began on local wrestling teams before he devoted himself fully to Jiu-Jitsu in 2010. Jose trained under Erik Faust and the late Shane Mock, with additional time under IBJJF world champion Abraham Martes, and has been teaching since earning his brown belt in 2019. He received his black belt in 2022 and is known for his dedication to both the technical and personal development of his students. The academy’s instruction team brings together a range of experience, including black belts Erik Faust and Tomas Canseco. Erik, a second-degree black belt, is recognized for his analytical approach and clear teaching style, while Tomas, also a licensed chiropractor, brings a unique perspective on biomechanics and injury prevention. The kids’ Jiu-Jitsu program is run by brown belts Dylan Delay and Shaye Witman, both of whom emphasize not just skill acquisition but character and growth for younger members. Striking classes are directed by Erik Spring, a three-time USKA national kickboxing champion and accomplished professional boxer, who also offers personal training and fitness. Berks County Brazilian BJJ maintains a busy schedule with both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for adults and kids, early-morning classes, and dedicated wrestling sessions. The academy also provides kickboxing, MMA (by reservation), and strength and conditioning programs, making it a gathering place for grapplers and strikers alike. Open mats are held regularly, and the gym welcomes drop-ins, reflecting its practical, hands-on approach to martial arts in the Temple area.
