2219 Capehart Rd, Bellevue, NE
Bellevue Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded in the spring of 2024 by Jason Minor and Arnold deAsis, two training partners who wanted to bring the approach and atmosphere they experienced at Omaha’s Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu closer to Bellevue. As the first affiliate of Omaha’s Academy, they maintain the same focus on quality instruction and respect for the art, blending it with their own effort to build a local place to train. The academy operates out of Capehart Square in Bellevue, offering classes in a facility that is wheelchair accessible. Classes at Bellevue Academy cover both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for adults and youth. The schedule includes beginner-friendly foundations classes, regular adult gi and no-gi sessions, and youth gi classes for kids, typically held Tuesday and Thursday evenings. They also hold bi-weekly gi workshops that allow students to drill specific techniques in more depth. Open mat sessions are available for all adult students to come in and practice in a less structured setting. Drop-ins are accepted, making it possible for newcomers to try out the training before committing. The academy emphasizes safety and respect in training, encouraging students to sample both gi and no-gi styles during a one-week trial period. This approach reflects the founders’ belief in learning the fundamentals thoroughly while building confidence and camaraderie on the mats. The focus remains on steady progress through consistent practice rather than competition results or flashy techniques.
