Barnet Combat Academy

Founded in 2012, Barnet Combat Academy was created to offer a practical, technical approach to martial arts in Barnet, Greater London. The academy is headed by a team of specialists including a decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt coach, competitive MMA fighters, and experienced Muay Thai instructors. The BJJ programme is led by Ricardo “Ricky” Cidra, an active competitor with a British No-Gi title and multiple medals in the gi, who brings both international experience and authenticity to the mats. The academy’s ethos is rooted in detailed instruction for beginners, with a focus on making serious training accessible and enjoyable for all. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Barnet Combat Academy covers both gi and no-gi formats, with fundamental and intermediate sessions available throughout the week. Adult classes are structured to build solid basics before progressing to more advanced techniques, while kids’ BJJ classes cater to ages 6–13 and run during term time. The schedule also features a dedicated intermediate/advanced no-gi session on Saturdays, giving more experienced students a chance to refine their skills. All BJJ coaching is grounded in competition-tested methods, and private sessions are available for those seeking tailored development. Alongside BJJ, the academy is known for its comprehensive Muay Thai, boxing, MMA, and strength and conditioning programmes. Classes are offered for kids, teens, and adults, with options ranging from beginner padwork to sparring and mixed martial arts fundamentals. The gym’s flexible approach allows members to train across disciplines, with no fixed terms or hidden fees, and drop-ins are welcome. Located on East Barnet Road, the facility is fully equipped for striking and grappling, and is designed to support both recreational martial artists and those seeking to compete.
