Located in the heart of London, BALANCE BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU ACADEMY is led by head instructor Paxton, a second degree black belt under ten-time world champion Roger Gracie. Paxton founded the academy three years ago, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his early days training and teaching at the RGA-affiliated academy in Henley on Thames. His teaching style, shaped by over a decade of immersion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is known for its clarity, technical detail and a genuine focus on student well-being. The academy has quickly become a central fixture in London’s BJJ scene, attracting students from across the city and beyond. The team at BALANCE BJJ is rounded out by instructors with deep martial arts backgrounds. Raymond Yong, first degree black belt in BJJ and a qualified osteopath, draws on over 30 years of martial arts and coaching experience, while Fitzroy Peters brings more than two decades in BJJ, wrestling and striking, with a strong emphasis on self-defence and practical skill development. Justin Goh, a judo black belt, integrates his expertise into the academy’s programme, offering judo throws and striking classes that complement the core BJJ curriculum. Brown belt Ali Mbow, an active competitor with a decade of training under Roger Gracie, takes pride in mentoring students and refining their progression. Training at BALANCE BJJ covers both gi and no-gi classes, with a clear pathway for beginners starting with basics and progressing at their own pace. The schedule runs from early mornings through to evenings on weekdays, with Saturday sessions and private appointments available on Sundays. The academy is known for its strict zero-ego policy, fostering a supportive and enjoyable training atmosphere. Students range from complete novices to competitors, with many drawn by the high standard of instruction and the opportunity to train alongside experienced coaches in central London.
