Atos Tacoma | Legend Jiu Jitsu Academy in University Place is led by Professor Noa Moke, a black belt whose journey began in Kauai, Hawaii, in 2000. Professor Noa’s roots run deep: he trained under Bruno Ewald (a Royler Gracie black belt) and earned his own black belt from Nelson Montero of Gracie Barra Kauai, before joining the Atos team under Andre Galvao. He’s spent time living and training in Brazil, competing in more than 100 matches across the world, and running programs both in Hawaii and Washington. The academy’s name, “Legend,” is a nod to Noa’s nickname on Kauai and honors both the original pioneers of jiu jitsu and the tradition he carries forward. The coaching staff brings a wide range of experience to the mats. Professor Vic is an Atos black belt under Andre Galvao, with major tournament wins including Master Worlds and Pan Ams. Coaches like Ben Brandon and Kerry Harris have earned medals at IBJJF Master Worlds and other international events, while also focusing on helping students build confidence and technical skill. The team includes coaches with backgrounds in wrestling, military leadership, and lifelong martial arts, and they are dedicated to practical skill development and personal growth for all ages. Legend Jiu Jitsu Academy offers structured Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for adults and children starting at age 4, with a strong emphasis on character, discipline, and practical self-defense. The schedule includes early morning, noon, and evening classes, as well as open mats and sessions focused on wrestling for jiu jitsu. The facility features a large training area, weightlifting room, and is wheelchair accessible. The academy welcomes visitors and drop-ins, and maintains a family-oriented, relationship-driven approach to training rooted in both tradition and competition.
