Ares Arizona Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Mesa is led by Paul Nava, a 4th-degree black belt with deep roots in the art since 2000. Paul brings a wealth of experience as both a competitor—with multiple world titles to his name—and as a teacher, shaping the direction of the academy since its founding. The coaching staff follows his lead, each bringing years on the mats and a strong background in competition and instruction. The academy runs a full slate of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for adults and kids, with a structured progression from fundamentals to advanced gi training. No-gi classes are also available for both adults and youth, offering a different look at grappling for those interested in submission wrestling. The schedule includes women’s-only classes, youth competition training, and open mats for students to roll and refine their skills. Ares Arizona doesn’t stop at Jiu-Jitsu—students can also take wrestling, judo, and even sumo classes, along with yoga and strength & conditioning to round out their training. Kids’ programs are a big part of the academy’s identity, with classes designed for building confidence and skill in a safe, positive setting. The school welcomes families, and is an approved ESA vendor, working with the Arizona Department of Education.
