Apex Jiu Jitsu

Apex Jiu Jitsu in Swansea is led by a team of experienced instructors rooted firmly in traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, affiliated with the Gracie Humaitá lineage through the GSA network. The academy benefits from the guidance of Professor Elson Pinho, a 3rd degree black belt with over 26 years of experience and a background in judo and physical education. Alongside him are Professors Isabelle, a world champion black belt with 14 years of practice, and Marcus Vinícius Voi, a 3rd degree black belt with 25 years in martial arts including Capoeira, Muay Thai, and MMA. Together, they have developed a structured curriculum that respects the art’s heritage while addressing the needs of their local community. Training at Apex covers a comprehensive range of classes for adults and children, focusing on both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Beginners start with fundamentals and self-defence, progressing through drilling and sparring sessions designed to build technical skill and physical confidence. The academy also offers specialised wrestling takedown classes and competition-oriented training for those aiming to test their skills in tournaments. For younger students, programs emphasise discipline, confidence, and anti-bullying strategies, while women’s classes provide a supportive environment tailored to their needs. The schedule includes open mat sessions that allow students to practise freely and refine their techniques outside formal classes. Apex welcomes drop-ins and encourages a family-friendly atmosphere where students of all ages can train together. Located at 11-15 Josephson Street, the academy is a hub for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Lake Macquarie, combining traditional values with a modern approach to martial arts education.
