Antelope Valley Jiu Jitsu

Antelope Valley Jiu Jitsu was founded in 2002 by Dan Howard, who helped establish Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Antelope Valley during the late 1990s. The academy moved to its current location in Palmdale in 2005, becoming the first independent BJJ school in the area. Though Coach Dan has passed on, his students now run the gym, continuing his emphasis on fundamentally sound techniques applicable across competition, self-defense, and fitness. Training at Antelope Valley Jiu Jitsu focuses on solid basics that can be adapted to a variety of situations. The schedule includes regular gi classes for adults and kids, with instruction designed to develop skills progressively. Competition classes are offered as needed, reflecting the school’s ongoing connection to the competitive side of grappling. Open mat sessions are planned for the near future, providing additional time for practice and drilling. The coaching staff draws on decades of combined mat experience, aiming to guide students through their individual journeys. Kids classes run on weekday evenings, while adult programs occupy most weeknights, creating space for steady, consistent training. Located in Palmdale, AVJJ serves as a long-standing local hub where students can build their game under instructors who uphold the legacy of their founder.
