American Top Team Connecticut BJJ, MMA, Muay Thai Danbury, CT was founded in 2003 by Professor Luigi Mondelli, a 5th Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt with a record that includes five Panamerican Masters titles and three World Masters championships. Professor Mondelli leads the academy with nearly two decades of experience teaching both kids and adults in Connecticut, drawing on a coaching background that covers everything from pee-wee practitioners to professional MMA fighters. Co-owner Professor Silvia Mondelli, a 1st Degree Black Belt and two-time World Masters Champion, is also a core part of the teaching staff, adding depth and continuity to the school’s leadership. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu serves as the backbone of the program, with classes structured to support both beginners and more advanced students. Fundamentals and youth classes are central fixtures, allowing students to build technical foundations before moving on to more complex training. The academy’s kids and youth programs are distinct from the adult offerings, focusing not just on grappling skills but also on discipline, confidence, and teamwork—values emphasized in every class. Beyond jiu-jitsu, the schedule includes instruction in MMA, Muay Thai, and self-defense, reflecting a practical approach for those interested in striking, takedowns, or real-world combatives. Open mat sessions provide additional opportunities for live rounds and positional training outside of structured class time. Drop-ins are welcome, making the gym accessible for travelers or local grapplers interested in cross-training. Families, hobbyists, and aspiring competitors alike will find a place to develop at this long-established Danbury academy.
