American Killer Bees PA MMA & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Stroudsburg has served the Poconos since 2013 under the direction of head instructor Matt Perez. Perez’s martial arts roots run deep—his grandfather was a professional boxer and his father fought in Golden Gloves. After starting wrestling at age seven, Perez built his own career as a professional MMA fighter, earning his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Luis Martinez and Israel Gomes and a black Kurang in Muay Thai. The academy is part of the international Killer Bees association, founded by Israel Gomes, Anderson Silva, and Rodrigo Vidal, giving students access to a respected lineage with a practical, hands-on coaching approach. The school’s programs reflect a commitment to both traditional and modern martial arts. Adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes focus on gi fundamentals and progression, while wrestling, Muay Thai, and boxing round out the MMA curriculum. Cardio kickboxing is offered as a non-contact fitness option. The kids’ program is a core strength, with “Little Bees” classes for ages 4–6 and a separate group for ages 8–12, teaching the foundations of BJJ and self-defense in age-appropriate ways. Wrestling for grades K–6 emphasizes fundamentals and live practice, while the kids’ stand-up program draws on Coach TJ’s background in striking and competition. Instruction is delivered by a team with diverse experience: Coach D’lo leads much of the youth BJJ instruction, Coach John brings a law enforcement and youth mentorship background, and Coach TJ oversees striking for both adults and children. Classes run weekday evenings and Saturday mornings inside the Stroud Mall, and the facility is wheelchair accessible. Drop-in visitors are welcome, and the academy maintains a focus on technical development, discipline, and practical self-defense for all ages.
