Altiora Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Lawrenceburg, Indiana was founded in 2019 by Dan Rohe and Eric Silz, both experienced black belts with deep roots in the Cincinnati and Dearborn County area. Dan Rohe earned his black belt under Jeff Robison in 2018 and has taught in the region since 2017, while Eric Silz brings a strong background in both wrestling and MMA, having competed extensively before receiving his black belt in 2021. The academy was built on a passion for self-defense, submission grappling, and creating a place where students of all backgrounds can challenge themselves and grow, both on and off the mats. Classes at Altiora cover the full spectrum of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training. Adults and teens can train in both gi and no-gi formats, with fundamentals and advanced sessions available. The no-gi program offers a sport-oriented approach, while traditional gi classes emphasize practical self-defense and technical progression. The schedule also includes women’s-only BJJ led by skilled female instructors, providing a focused, empowering space for women to build confidence and skills. Folkstyle wrestling, taught by a former NCAA Division II wrestler, rounds out the grappling curriculum and is open to all ages, with special attention to middle and high school athletes looking for extra mat time. The kids’ program at Altiora is a cornerstone of the academy, structured by age groups starting as young as six and continuing through the early teens. Each level builds on the fundamentals of grappling and self-defense, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. Coaches take pride in making classes engaging and accessible, helping young students develop coordination, confidence, and discipline as they progress. In addition to BJJ, the academy offers kickboxing and regular open mats. Altiora welcomes drop-ins and makes accessibility a priority, including wheelchair access.
