The academy is led by Professor Haris Usanovic, a 3rd-degree black belt who began training at age 11 and has dedicated over two decades to jiu jitsu, guided by mentors Eddie, Adam, and Idris Redzovic. Professor Haris is known for his straightforward, traditional approach—emphasizing strong basics, practical self-defense, and the resilience that comes from repeatedly showing up on the mat. He is joined by Coach Mike, a 4-stripe brown belt who brings a conceptual style to both beginner and advanced classes, and Coach Billy, a 4-stripe blue belt with a wrestling background, who specializes in making the fundamentals clear and accessible for kids. Classes at All Star Jiu Jitsu are structured around progression and real-world application. The Rising Stars program introduces children to BJJ basics in a safe, ego-free environment, focusing on discipline, confidence, and foundational self-defense. Adults start with Fundamentals classes in the gi, where techniques, transitions, and positional understanding are taught with an emphasis on real-life scenarios. Advanced modules challenge students with more complex techniques and sport-specific training, and both gi and no-gi sessions are available for those looking to expand their skill set. Open mats are offered for adults, giving members the chance to practice and experiment in a less structured setting.
