Claim this gymAhlert BJJ is led by Professor Joe Ahlert, a 4th degree black belt under Master Renzo Gracie. Joe began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1993 at the age of 13 with Royce and Rorian Gracie, years before the first UFC event. He earned his blue belt from Royler Gracie and continued his progression under Renzo Gracie’s guidance, receiving his black belt directly from him. Over nearly three decades, Joe has competed successfully across multiple combat sports including BJJ, no-gi grappling, MMA, and shootfighting, but his primary focus has been on teaching. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, he has developed numerous students who have gone on to win professional MMA titles and world championships in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The academy’s curriculum reflects Professor Ahlert’s deep experience and broad skill set. Classes cover gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for all levels, with dedicated sessions for technique drilling and open mat time for extra practice. The program also includes specialized classes such as Jiu-Jitsu for MMA and women’s BJJ. Complementing grappling, the academy offers Muay Thai training with sparring sessions to develop striking skills. Additional offerings like yoga tailored for BJJ practitioners support flexibility and injury prevention, rounding out a comprehensive martial arts education. Students at Ahlert BJJ can expect a structured progression through fundamentals to advanced techniques, guided by a team of instructors who have trained extensively under Professor Ahlert and other renowned figures like John Danaher and Matt Serra. The academy’s schedule balances skill development, competition preparation, and practical self-defense, with classes available throughout the week including early morning and weekend options. Private lessons and weapons defense courses are also available, reflecting the school’s commitment to a wide range of combative disciplines.
