Agoge Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Severna Park is led by Professor João Paulo Ferreira, known as JP, who began his training in Rio de Janeiro at age 11 and earned his black belt under Professor Tiago Rocha of Alliance. JP brings decades of experience as a competitor and coach, with a resume that includes championships at the Pan Ams, Brazilian Nationals, and Abu Dhabi World Trials. After competing in the Brazilian UFC Trials, he moved to the United States to focus on teaching, founding both Agoge and the Professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation to help grow the sport globally. At Agoge, his vision centers on building strong, disciplined individuals through structured, step-by-step instruction. The academy’s programs reflect this structured approach, with a curriculum that supports students from their very first class through advanced training. Adults can start in fundamentals classes—available in both gi and no-gi formats—and progress through intermediate and advanced levels, including focused live training. Professor Ryan Mason, a black belt with a background in both jiu jitsu and wrestling, serves as program director. He is known for his ability to break down complex techniques and oversees both kids and adult classes, ensuring consistency and clarity in every session. Children’s programs at Agoge are divided by age and skill, beginning with “Little Warriors” and progressing through “Warriors” and “Juniors” groups, starting as young as five years old. These classes emphasize discipline, confidence, and technical development in a supportive but structured environment. The academy welcomes visitors and drop-ins, and the facility is wheelchair accessible. This combination of experienced leadership, a clear lineage, and a thoughtfully organized class structure defines Agoge’s approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Severna Park.
