4:13 Jiu Jitsu in Marion, Illinois, is led by Tristan Tripp, who began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2013. Tristan came to the art after teaching another martial discipline, and was so drawn to BJJ that he started over from scratch, giving up his previous rank. He opened 4:13 Jiu Jitsu in 2018, first in a modest space and later expanding to a larger facility as the academy grew. Tristan is a certified instructor under Master Royler Gracie and continues to refine his skills and teaching by traveling weekly to train with his professor. His commitment to both personal growth and his students is central to the academy’s mission, and he brings competition experience—including a bronze medal at World Masters 2025—into his approach. The academy offers a structured Gracie Humaita curriculum rooted in traditional gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with classes for kids, youth, adults, and women. Young students can start as early as age four in the Kids BJJ program, then progress to the Youth BJJ group for ages eight to fifteen. Adults have access to fundamentals, advanced gi, and intermediate no-gi classes, ensuring a steady progression for hobbyists and aspiring competitors alike. A women’s only self-defense class is also available, led by instructor Ashley Stadelbacher. Open mat sessions round out the schedule, giving all students a chance to apply what they’ve learned in a flexible setting. Tristan and his team emphasize both technical development and character growth, especially in their work with kids, aiming to build not only strong competitors but also leaders. Certified instructors continue their own education to keep classes engaging and current, while maintaining the lineage and values passed down from Royler Gracie, David Adiv, and JW Wright. 4:13 Jiu Jitsu welcomes drop-ins and is wheelchair accessible, providing a place for anyone in Southern Illinois to pursue Jiu-Jitsu with guidance and enthusiasm.
