Claim this gym150 Grappling is led by Professor Logan Yox, who brings a unique blend of wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience to the Westminster mat. Logan’s grappling journey began in high school wrestling, where he became a state finalist and went on to compete for five years at McDaniel College. After college, he trained intensively at Atos HQ in San Diego under Andre Galvao, earning his brown belt before returning to Maryland to open 150 Grappling. In January 2024, he was promoted to black belt by Galvao. Alongside Logan, co-owner Matthew Malone offers a different perspective. Starting jiu-jitsu at 42 alongside his young children, Matt has advanced through challenges of age and injury, competing successfully at the Masters Pans and showing that the art works for all ages. The academy develops students through a structured curriculum that emphasizes fundamentals for adults, novices, women, and kids. Classes focus on body movement, coordination, and core techniques from all positions, building a foundation before moving into more advanced concepts. Youth programs introduce children ages 5 ½ to 13 to jiu-jitsu fundamentals while helping with focus and discipline. Special memberships cater to high school athletes looking for off-season grappling training and college students home for the summer, highlighting the school’s practical approach to skill development and endurance. Training at 150 Grappling includes gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with open mat sessions available for adults to drill and spar outside of class. The school’s teaching style reflects Logan’s wrestling background and military leadership experience, combined with Matt’s coaching of both kids and adults. Together, they emphasize steady progress through repetition and technique, aiming to help each student find their own path in the sport.
