9225 SW Hall Blvd B, Tigard, OR
Walk through the door at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Tigard and you’ll find a wide-open mat, shoes off, no-gi gear on, and a room full of people getting after it—beginners, competitors, and hobbyists working side by side. Classes run every day, with the head instructor Sam Hardy—himself a 10th Planet black belt—personally leading most sessions. There’s no rotating cast of strangers here; the coaching crew all came up through these same mats, earning their stripes in the same room where they now teach. The academy is structured around the modern 10th Planet no-gi system, with a clear path from fundamentals to advanced and competition training. Adults can train up to six days a week, moving from beginner classes into more challenging intermediate and competition rounds as they progress. The schedule includes open mat sessions, as well as Muay Thai two evenings a week—offering a chance to add striking and clinch work alongside grappling. Kids’ classes start as young as three years old, with age-split groups for 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12, each led with patience and a focus on real skill-building and confidence. 10th Planet Tigard was built to be approachable and serious at the same time: no belt-chasing, no ego, and no gatekeeping. The teaching philosophy is simple—break down techniques so they make sense, drill them until they stick, and hold each other to the standard of being the kind of teammate you’d want on your worst day. The gym is wheelchair accessible and welcomes visitors to drop in and see for themselves what it’s like to train at a place where everyone is expected to help each other get better.
