10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Pompano Beach is run by Matt Walsh, a black belt in the 10th Planet system who has trained under Eddie Bravo’s lineage since 2008. Walsh began his teaching career at 10th Planet San Francisco in 2013, earned his black belt in 2018, and later taught at 10th Planet San Diego before founding the Pompano Beach location in March 2022. His own competitive background spans world, national, and regional no-gi events, though his main focus today is developing students and supporting their competitive journeys. The academy follows the signature no-gi approach of the 10th Planet system, with classes built around the latest techniques and warm-up sequences passed down from headquarters in Los Angeles. Training options include beginner fundamentals, all-levels sessions, advanced and competition classes, and dedicated programs for youths ages 12–17. Coach Walsh places a strong emphasis on breaking down every sequence and transition, making the curriculum accessible to both new practitioners and experienced grapplers. 10th Planet Pompano Beach also offers specific tracks for masters (ages 40 and up) and women’s-only classes, providing focused instruction for these groups. Open mat sessions are available to members, with Coach Walsh present for questions and technical guidance. Walsh’s background in allied health informs a teaching philosophy centered on safety, longevity, and the well-being of every student. The academy is wheelchair accessible and strives to keep its programs segmented to meet the varied needs of its students.
